  • Please prepare a 32-bar cut of your choice. Songs from the show/s you are auditioning for are welcomed but not mandatory. 

  • Please be prepared to stay for a 1:00pm dance callback if asked.

Seeking engaging, confident, and outgoing youth actors to perform in the professional production of A Christmas Story the musical here at the Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theatre. Actors will be expected to sing, dance, and tap dance within the production. High levels of training are a bonus but not a necessity. Actors must be able to take direction and have a willingness to try new things.


Audition Details: Casting youth actors between 8-15 years old.
8-10 years old will be seen for the role of Randy.
10-15 years old will be seen for all other roles.

Please Bring:

  • Headshot or an 8x10 photo of the auditionee

  • Resume or list of dance, vocal, sports, activities, etc. that the actor has participated in.

  • Sheet music for the vocal music selection.

  • Tap shoes (please note at ALL actors will tap in the show. Even if the auditionee has no experience, they will still need to bring and wear tap shoes at the audition.

  • Jazz shoes or sneakers.

  • Please wear gym or athletic clothes that you can dance in.

  • Lunch- Some auditionees will be asked to stay for an afternoon session and given a 1-hour lunch break and may leave to get lunch with their parents or stay on site. Please note that the theatre is 15-20 mins from most fast food and restaurants.

Please prepare a 16-bar cut (or 30-60 seconds) from a song of your choice. Selection should showcase the audintionees voice and personality. Please bring your own sheet music. No taped accompaniment. All auditionees have the option to sing the provided audition song below:

Productions Dates and Details:

Rehearsals start: September 4th, 2021 (Labor Day weekend)

Opening: November 20, 2021

Closing: December 26, 2021

 -Saturday 6:00pm

Rehearsal Info:

Rehearsals will be most Tuesday evenings and Saturdays (all day) between Labor day and October 30th. Rehearsals start with the full cast (including adults) on November 1st and will rehearse everyday until opening on November 20th. Actors WILL be asked to miss some school days for tech week: November 15-19, 2021.

Production Description:

"A Christmas story, The Musical!" Synopsis: This classic holiday tale centers on a mischievous,

bespectacled boy, Ralphie, who dreams of getting a BB gun for Christmas. In the weeks before the big holiday, Ralphie, his friends, and his family get into all kinds of situations: including run-ins with a bully with "yellow eyes" a tongue stuck to a flag pole, a bar of soap in the mouth, a garnish leg lamp, a major award and a Chinese Christmas dinner. Based on the humorous Jean Shepherd's novel "In God We Trust, All Other Pay Cash," this is a tribute to the Original, Traditional, One -Hundred-Percent, Red- Blooded, Two-Fisted, All-American Christmas.

Roles:

Ralphie (Lead) : Male, 10-13

Principal; to play 9-10; under 5'0"; a regular boy; appealing but not necessarily a handsome boy. Can have some extra weight on him. Strong presence, honest actor, not too "show-bizzy." Experienced on stage and a strong singing voice. High belter with an unchanged voice.  

Vocal range: Low F# to high D. Role may be double cast.

Randy (Lead) : Male or Female, 8-10 

Principal; to play about 7-8; must be smaller than Ralphie. A cute and funny little boy or girl with a big personality. Must be physically comfortable onstage, be able to concentrate, and take direction.

Vocal range: Low F# to high C#

Flick/Ensemble (Supporting) : Male 10-13 

Friend to Ralphie with a brotherhood personality. Sing's a song with his tongue "stuck" to a flag pole. Must be funny and natural. A strong singer/belter with an unchanged voice.  

Vocal range: Low B to high C#

Schwartz/Ensemble (Supporting) : Male, 10-13

Friend to Ralphie with brotherhood personality. Must have an unchanged voice. 

Vocal range: Low B to high C#

Scut Farkus/Ensemble (Supporting) : 10-13

The school bully who torments Ralphie and his friends. Must be confident, witty, and uses his size to get his way. Can be taller than the rest.

Grover Dill/ Ensemble (Supporting) : Male 10-13

Farkus's sidekick, a smaller kid. Must have an unchanged voice

Vocal range: Low B to high C#

Female Youth Ensemble (Chorus/Ensemble) : Female, 10-15 

Strong singers, movers, and dancers. Strong, engaging, and independent performers. Must be able to tap or be able to learn. 

Vocal range: Low B to high D#

Male Youth Ensemble (Chorus/Ensemble) : Male, 10-15

Strong singers, movers, and dancers. Strong engaging, and independent performers. Must be able to tap or be able to learn.
